Fashion and Fun after Fifty

Archive for March 2012

I purchased these from Walgreens on sale with a coupon and find that they are easier to install than Sally Hansen.  Quick and easy makes it #1 in my book.

My sons are too old for us to dye eggs for Easter, but I’m not too old to tie dye t-shirts.  Thinking ahead and looking forward to the heat of the summer I decided to tie dye 2 cotton t-shirts that I will wear with my shorts.

Package of Tulip Fabric Dye, $2.37 at Walmart; 1/4 cup of salt; wooden stick, aluminum pan and a gallon of boiled water.

I followed the directions on the package, however, I did not stir it for an hour, I just made sure the shirt was total submerged and then let it sit for an hour.

I wrapped rubber bands around for the other shirt and placed it in the pan for only 30 mins.

I rinsed both shirts in cool to warm water, dunking them both until the water was mostly clear

Using a free sample of Shout Color Catcher I washed them on a quick cycle in cold water

Today I was going through my closet finding items to donate and I came across these 3 Gucci purses which were thrifted from Goodwill in 1991.  My sister, Gloria worked at Goodwill in Dover for a year before her  death in 1992.  She and I loved shopping there even before it became popular.  Leather coats, hats, boots and these purses are among some of the items that I still have to this day.

Spring Break is right around the corner and my family and I are anxious to get outdoors to start our annual Spring Projects.  I had a  10% off total purchase coupon,  so hubby, my #2 son and I headed to The Home Depot for their  “Black Friday” sale.

My project will be to stain the deck, and we found this new product called Restore  on sale for $39, marked down from $49.  Based on the measurements of our deck it was cheaper to get the 5 gallon bucket for $78.00.

Before we checked out, my radar picked up on a small clearance section where I got 48 oz bottle of Pine Sol for $2.00
