Fashion and Fun after Fifty

On Sunday, a second book signing was held at The Java House Cafe in Middletown with local author, Jacqueline Charmane.  Jacqueline’s book, They Raped Me Once Over and Over Again is her fifth book and the first one not self-published.  In addition to being an author, Jacqueline is a Christian Evangelist and a Comedian (Mother Maeye).  As a student at The University of Delaware she received numerous awards and accolades and was even honored as “Most Likely to Succeed” but her dreams were turned into nightmares and she dropped out of school.

Jacqueline eventually returned to school and began working for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and while commuting on a train she met her rapist and father of her only son.  Rejected she hid the truth and married her boyfriend who thought the child was his.  This true story is of how her courage, determination and faith in God helped her survive an abusive marriage, kidnapping of her son, a divorce, depression, a mental breakdown and then the near death of her son.

They Raped Me Once Over and Over Again is not for the faint of heart, it’s a graphic real life account about the things men do to women and the things women do to survive, it will definitely change the way you think about life.  Jacqueline’s other books are “A Journal of 52 Days To Your Prosperity“, “I Don’t Do “FRIEND” Marry Me or Be Alone”, “Satan’s Dirty Little Secret Is Out” and “Knowing and Possessing The Attributes of God”

Hello Friends and Happy Sunday

I trust you all had a nice weekend and were able to relax or do something fun and exciting or both!  I wasn’t able to clean out my closets but I did have a busy fun filled weekend which started with the honor of being chosen, “Top Blogger of the Week” by Sverve.  I was in a fantastic mood as I headed out leaving my men doing yard work which wasn’t what my sons had planned for their weekend.  While in town I stopped at my favorite lunch spot, The Java House Cafe where they were hosting a book signing by Christian author Richelle Rodgers.  Her book, Forever Growing A Journey of Trust is a motivational book on empowerment and growing your relationship with God.  Richelle is a retired Army Vet who remains very active in supporting other female vets and is currently working on a Women Veterans Leadership Awards Symposium to be held in DC this fall.

Today, The Java House Cafe hosted another book signing by author, Jacqueline Charmane, her 5th book, They Raped Me Once Over and Over Again, is a true story based on her life.  She spoke briefly about some of the heart breaking events in her life including the emotional and physical abuse by both her rapist and husband as well as the the kidnapping of her son. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to speak with each author after the events, purchased an autographed copy of the books, and took pictures which I will post later this week.

Today, was a bright and sunny day, a little cool but I had just purchased this Printed Cold Shoulder Dress from Avon and wanted to wear it to church.

It reminds me of a 70’s retro dress with the slit sleeves, do you remember Julie from The Mod Squad?

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, was a guest speaker last night at the University of Delaware, in Trabant Hall. The event was presented by CPAB and co-sponsored by Center for Black Culture. The evening started with a tribute to Fannie Lou Hamer by Ms. Glenis Redmond, poet and author.

The program was free and open to the public but was geared more towards the college students. In the lobby there were several tables manned by students registering people to vote, seperated by states. The audience was a mix of young and old, black and white, students, coaches and staff. I was there with my husband and sons listening to historical facts and stories, some funny and others not so much, some even sad.

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, is a Professor, Author, Radio and TV host, and a regular guest on The Ed Show on MSNBC. He began by thanking those who invited him, weaving in sports, music, and educational antidotes, some old school for the young crowd, and new school for us older folk. After about 10 minutes of acknowledgments and shout outs he began, “Why You Should Vote”.

Unfortunately, there are many young people who do not plan to vote, some of which have been very vocal, including a talented rapper. He has too many not-so-good reasons as to why he will not vote and many of his fans are listening. What he and others may fail to realize is that there are still places in the world where people cannot vote but wish they could.

Dr. Dyson was not there to tell the audience who to vote for, but just to vote and he laid out these 3 reasons.

Reason #1

“YOU CAN”

many people in the world can’t; it expands democracy

yes, the system is not perfect and has problems but as referenced by this statement: “I may not be perfect but I am perfect for you” – Grace Jones

Reason #2

“HONOR THE STRUGGLE”

people fought, bled and died for the right to vote; blacks and women were unable to vote; Dr. King only had the opportunity to vote the last 3 years of his life

Reason #3

“UPHOLD CIVIC VIRTUE”

help and uphold others, we are the 47%

Failure to vote is failing your ultimate duty as a citizen

The program ended with a question and answer session, unfortunately we didn’t stay the entire time. I did hear him give simple, down to earth, easy to remember responses for students to give those who say they are not voting. It was a very good presentation and the applause was heavy, now just praying that the students in attendance will vote because our future depends upon it.
