Fashion and Fun after Fifty

Monday…Monday…Monday…and what a beautiful day it is – the Lord has truly blessed us with a gorgeous pre-Autumn day.  I am happy to be able to turn off the AC and open up the windows, I will however miss the heat but not the high electric bills!  I had planned on clearing out my closet over the weekend but decided to work outside instead.  In addition to the shoes scattered on my closet floor I have a lot of skirts hanging.  It’s time to start wearing them more frequently so that I can determine what to keep and what to donate.  This week the theme “a skirt a day”, starts with an Army green denim which is perfect for today’s brisk weather.

Tomorrow hubby and I will be celebrating our 22nd Wedding Anniversary at our favorite restaurant in Newark. I will be wearing the blue dress that I purchased from Boscov’s and for the life of me I couldn’t remember if I had shoes to wear with it. Driving home I contemplated stopping at the mall but I didn’t want to spend a lot on a pair of shoes that most likely will be worn only a few times.
I drive by a Goodwill so I decided to stop and found 2 pairs of shoes for $4.00 each! In the past I would never have purchased second hand shoes but thanks to the recession that is no longer unthinkable.

Most times the shoes are gently worn or haven’t been worn at all and I make sure to thoroughly disinfectant them prior to wearing. I donate shoes to Goodwill all the time and there are times when women have tried on shoes in the department store prior to my purchasing them so it’s no big deal.

I spray and wipe out the shoes and straps while wearing plastic or rubber gloves, and for non-fabric shoes I use bleach and water.

Why is it that when you are on vacation you tend to buy things that you wouldn’t normally wear at home. That happened to me while in Florida a few years ago when I fell head over heels in love with these gold tone gladiator sandals. Now I can count on one hand just how many times I have actually worn them! It’s not like they are uncomfortable, they are just a bit too shiny for my taste. I have decided to wear them just one more time before they are packed with the rest of the Goodwill donations.
